This is the life. I’m getting good connection speeds again (“good” being relative here, with this being dial-up), and staying connected for extended periods of time.
As of right now, I’m connected at top speed for my dial-up, and have been online for two hours and thirty minutes.
Considering that at the height of the problems with the phone, we were getting noise on both lines, as well as cross-talk. This caused a lot of cases where the computer couldn’t keep up and dropped the connection. This also led to a database outage this past week, which stemmed from a botched upload following an update. I did get it fixed, but not without lots of problems.
But the phone is now fixed! They ended up going under the house and replaced some cables. And it all works now, which is good.
Not good is my father’s job of putting my own plugs back into place after the job was done while I was back at work. He meant well, but he didn’t realize that I had a splitter with three plugs on it. One plug connects to Line 1, one plug connects to Line 2, and the third plug is labeled for both, but really is a second one for Line 1. I use the third plug for my strobe. So my father managed to disconnect my strobe, and plug my voice line into the third plug. He also managed to unplug my fan. Don’t look at me. I don’t know how he managed that one.
Let’s give him credit – he meant well and intended to do it as a favor to me, but then didn’t stop when he was confronted by something unexpected – three plugs.
But it didn’t take me too long to figure out what was plugged in where, and to fix it all back how it should be. And a few test calls confirmed that my configuration was fixed.
And so that concludes the phone saga. It’s fixed. Thank goodness.
