Check this out:
This shopping cart looks slightly crushed. My guess is that it was hit by a tractor-trailer, because when a car, van, or pickup truck hits a Wal-Mart shopping cart, it usually strikes the cart low or midway up, sending it flying away from the vehicle striking it (often spinning!). This looks like it got wedged under something and then compressed by someone who probably couldn’t see the object struck until it was too late (thus a tractor trailer).
Either way, weird.
Meanwhile, today was one of those days. It’s the weekend before school starts around here (Augusta County starts school on Monday, and Staunton and Waynesboro start Wednesday), and as such, we had all these last-minute back-to-school shoppers.
By coincidence, this morning before work I watched the Decemberween 2004 cartoon on the Homestar Runner site entitled Homestar Presents: Presents, where Homestar realizes that Decemberween is nearly over and he hasn’t bought anyone any presents for Decemberween. As such he runs out of the house in a panic, looking desperately through Bubs’s “aught-four crap”. Then in the end, when it originally seems that Marzipan did not like Homestar’s present for her (wire cutters), Strong Bad remarked, “Foolish Homestar. Decemberween is not about getting people presents. It’s about getting people good presents! Good presents! Not this last-minute discount crap you’re trying to foist on us!”
That cartoon just reminds me of what was going on at work today. So many people were like, “Oh, crap! It’s the weekend before school starts! Oh, crap! I forgot to get school supplies for my children!” And so they all pile into Wal-Mart to clean out the back-to-school aisles. Add that to our regular Saturday grocery shoppers, and you get some serious lines – even on the Fastlanes. That’s something right there.
All in all, I’m definitely going to deserve my vacation when it comes. I can’t wait to lay out on the beach and soak up some sunlight. I can’t wait to take my whole show on the road for a few days and just get away from it all for a while.
Oh, and by the way, I will not have access to a computer for those four days.
