Did I tell you what I was dressing up as for Halloween this year? As it’s never too early to start planning, I’ve already decided, and started shopping. So I decided to go as a radical cheerleader. It’s partly a an opportunity to showcase an interest of mine (left-wing activism) in a different setting, and partly to one-up a coworker from last year who dressed as a radical cheerleader, whose costume I described as “not improvised enough”.
The coworker’s costume looked like this:
By the way, this is the same person with whom I went to my senior prom back in 1999. I described the costume as too neat and tidy. It’s not quite radical enough, though the costume did get some cool points for the anarchy sign.
My costume will be a little bit different. I’m going to wear black tights, my red Chuck Taylors, red shorts, a long-sleeved black shirt, and a red short-sleeved shirt over it. Add to that a black bandanna tied around my neck, and a red hat. And I’m going über-cheap on the clothing, since some of it will be doodled on. I’m painting a large red anarchy sign (the circle-A) in black on the red shirt, and I’m writing “CHEER SQUAD” with the “A” circled on the hat.
So yeah, I’m going to have fun with this. I’ve already scared a few coworkers with the idea of me wearing tights that day, even if I am going to be wearing shorts over them.
I’m modeling my costume primarily on the radical cheerleaders at the Million Worker March:
On my most recent DC trip, I threw the idea past a few people at the Infoshop, and they thought it was an awesome idea. That’s enough encouragement to do it, and post pictures afterwards.
