Yes, I got to do my commute in the dark this evening. And I don’t just mean dark outside, which it usually always is at this time of year for commute time. I mean it was dark inside the train. Yeah, I got Rohr 1178 at Dupont Circle, and all of the lights were out inside the car, except for over three doors. Then the lights came on while we were going to Farragut North. Then by Metro Center, they were off again. And on and off and on and off and so on all the way to Glenmont. There, they put the train out of service, presumably for repairs.

Still, riding on Metro with no lights on is kind of cool. For one thing, the tunnel lights going by make for some really cool flashes as you go by. Plus that’s the perfect time for railfanning, since you don’t have the glare from the lights in the car reflecting off the railfan window, and can really see down the tunnel. That is pretty cool, if you ask me.
So that makes two interesting rail trips this week, with the first being Tuesday morning when I was on Breda 4060. There, the all-4000-Series consist started experiencing mechanical problems at Union Station, and we were offloaded at Judiciary Square. I got Rohr 1072 the rest of the way to Dupont Circle that particular day…
