Yes, it’s Video Journal time again, on my birthday as I turn 30. And here it is:
This is a 20-minute video, but trust me, it’s worth every second of it. Here’s the video in a nutshell…
On my birthday: Today is my 30th birthday! I went out with my friend Isis and her boyfriend, and we went to this place in Rockville called The Vegetable Garden, which is an Asian restaurant that is 100% vegan. And it was really good, too! I had the Curry Supreme.
On swimming: I continue my adventures at Olney Swim Center, where I’m still swimming laps, and coming up with a good workout. My most recent trip involved splitting an hour’s swim into ten-minute blocks. I did ten minutes of kickboard work doing a flutter kick, ten minutes of kickboard work doing breaststroke kick, then put the kickboard aside and did ten minutes of backstroke, ten minutes of front crawl (aka “freestyle”), and then ten minutes of breaststroke. Then I did ten minutes back on the kickboard to cool down. I also discuss my different goggles, since my original set of goggles was woefully inadequate, since I bought them for protests, and they’d been sitting in the bottom of my protest bag for a long time. The new goggles are the Speedo Baja goggles. I like them, though I think I’m going to retrofit bungee cords onto them in place of the original strap. Goggles retrofitted with bungee cords look like this. Seems more flexible and easier to adjust. And let me repeat from the video: Has anyone else retrofitted the Speedo Baja goggle for bungee cords before? If so, how hard was it, and what do I need to look out for?
On losing weight: How do I look? If you compare to other Video Journal entries, I think that my face looks noticeably slimmer. My pants fit differently, too. And I can’t sit in the same place for long because of there being less padding in places than there used to be – no bull. Compare how I look in this Video Journal against past videos, and see if you notice a difference. Compare to the “Bounce Your Boobies” Journal entry and the “fire drills” Journal entry. I was fat in those entries. I think I look way better now.
Meanwhile, one thing I completely forgot to mention in the video was the diving well at Olney Swim Center. You’d think I’d have remembered that, because I took the diving board for a spin, and in the process, I scratched the hell out of my big toe – enough to make it bleed. See, it’s been way too long since the last time I used a diving board, and so I don’t know how to do this without scratching the hell out of my toe. I guess I need to figure that out. Of course, the whole diving board bit, like the hydrotherapy pools and the leisure pool, are play after my serious-business workout is done.
So there you go, I suppose. I think I need to learn how to use my inside voice on these things. When I find that I have to turn the volume way down when listening to myself on here, I’m being too loud, and apparently the microphone on the camera is sensitive…
