Which leaves you more winded?

Which leaves you more winded? An anti-war protest, or the Dupont Circle escalator? The escalator. This morning, coming out of the Metro on my way to work, the “up” escalator was not running at Dupont Circle. So I had to climb up rather than ride it up. And for those not familiar, Dupont Circle is a DEEP station. So that’s a lot of steps. And stopping is not an option, either, as you have a whole bunch of my fellow morning commuters right behind me, already cranky for having to climb the equivalent of several stories’ worth of stairs to get to work, before the day’s first cup of coffee. So that was no fun.
And out of three escalators, the only working escalator was going down. But hey, I got my cardio workout for the day.
Meanwhile, since I mention it, I did go to the September 15 protest, and what a great time I had. I went with Maddy, Olga, and Jeff, and went with the Radical Cheerleading DC group. What an awesome time. I also ran into Isis, whom I’d first met in June. And I also spent some time with SDS. It was awesome!
I was also surprised about who I ran into – I ran into Garrett Hatter, whom I knew from church in Stuarts Draft, and Jami DeCourcy, who used to swim with Sis. Both were in the bloc, with SDS. Small world! You know it’s someone who you know from Stuarts Draft when you hear, “Are you Ann Schumin’s brother?” Still, that was awesome.
Then I also got to spend time with all my various groups. Spent time with the Radical Cheerleaders, and then went with the faction of them that went in and marched with SDS. So we got everything covered. Next time I know it’s radical cheerleading, I’m wearing the radical cheer outfit that I came up with for last Halloween. It’s so awesome.
Then after the protest, I met up with Ataan and Mike from the forums, and we went around for a bit. We went to Pentagon City, and then back around to Metro Center, where we went to the Hard Rock Cafe, and then finally, back around to the White House, where I’d previously been that day with the protest. Not a bad time.
And as you might expect, there will be a photo set about this day, in Life and Times. No telling exactly when it will come out, though, as I’ve got something of a backlog.
