Funny Faces
Sometimes, it’s interesting what sorts of opportunities that life will present. On June 15, 2011, it was a chance to be silly in the middle of an otherwise average workday.
The way this came about is that I had to make an unexpected run out to the Apple Store in order to get a computer looked at. When I’m going to an Apple Store and leaving from the office, I go to the one at Pentagon City Mall. I arrived about 15 minutes early for my appointment, which isn’t a bad thing. Usually, the Genius Bar can still take me right away if I’m early. But in this case, the Genius Bar was running late. So that left me with some time just waiting around for my Genius Bar appointment. I started thinking about iJustine and the way she likes to dance in the Apple Store. Now I am not a dancer, nor do I play one on the Internet, but I still fired up Photo Booth on one of the Macs in the store.
But instead of dancing and making a movie of it (since I couldn’t figure out what to do, plus that little lack-of-rhythm problem), I ended up having a blast making faces for the camera. So this is what happened when I was left to my own devices in an Apple Store. And forty photos later, I ended up with a set of photos too numerous to showcase in the Journal as I had originally intended…
Doing that look-down-from-above face. I kind of considered this as being similar to the expression that the father from Shoes makes.
Goofing around with eye movements. I find these amusing because one can’t see one’s self doing these kinds of things in a mirror, since if you’re looking at yourself in a mirror, your eyes have to be pointed at the mirror.
Staring directly into the camera. My glasses look huge in these shots…
Teeth.
Tongue out!
I’m not quite sure what I was doing here. About to pounce on something, perhaps?
The intention of this was to demonstrate sock puppets, but I think a friend of mine came up with a better interpretation of it on Facebook, when she described it as, “Will you shut da f— up.”
I was trying to sort of make a frame around my head with this photo, but a friend came up with a very different interpretation on Facebook: “I am a fortune teller. I can see my hands around your throat.”
Love the facial expression on this one. A friend on Facebook described it as, “Bad dog… now get in there and get back in your cage.”
Not quite sure what I was trying to do with this one, but there you go, I suppose.
For some reason, this expression reminds me of Fred Thompson.
Staring down a camera.
Tilted head and oversized smile. I look slightly deranged.
Arm against the forehead, and hand looking like it’s trying to grab something. Your call.
I look like I’m casting a spell or something.
Looking down with a closeup on the glasses.
I was trying to strike a pose that looked meditative. A friend on Facebook commented, “Ummmmmmmmmmmm Buddha?” A coworker had a different interpretation, commenting that it looked like I was getting ready to dive into water.
With this one, I think I was going for something that vaguely resembled martial arts. Whether I was successful or not is another story.
I look bored in this shot, but it’s another cast-a-spell pose. It’s like I’m a magician that’s just doing it for the money, and who’s not really into it anymore.
A coworker described this scene as resembling the “Stop! In the Name of Love” idea.
“Oh, pardon me!”
Holding up the MacBook that I’m taking to the Genius Bar to get checked out.
Wearing my glasses upside down. Remember when the upside down look used to be a popular glasses style in the 1980s?
Pretending to hold something up for the camera.
Doing the “Myspace face”. As a testament to how stupid that expression is, a friend on Facebook described it as, “Look[s] like ya got caramel in a molar.”
“Boo!”
Holding up two peace signs for the camera.
My bored/disinterested face.
I think this expression kind of looks like, “Hmmmm.”
Holding my own head. Am I afraid it’s going to go somewhere?
Apparently, I’m in the process of making a very big, animated point.
No, that’s not an iPhone that I’m holding in my hand. That is my Motorola Droid phone. In an Apple Store. Is that considered a sin, holding up an Android phone like this in an Apple Store?
Look inside the computer…
Not quite sure what I was trying to demonstrate here…
Blank stare into the camera’s eye…
And to finish it off, normal.
And then my Genius Bar appointment came up.
