Remembering the Soul
Part 2
Selfie on September 19, 2013.
This was another Kia Key prompt, taken September 22. This was similar to the “pinch” photo, but using your arms instead of your fingers.
Rainy day outside of the Target in Laurel, October 11, 2013.
Photographing Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, West Virginia on October 15, 2013.
The Soul’s first visit to Asbury Park, on October 24, 2013.
She waits for me in East Potomac Park at the end of my overnight Washington Monument photo shoot.
Selfie on November 18, 2013.
This photo was taken at the same time as the selfie, and it shows the ceiling. Note the Bluetooth microphone next to the driver’s visor, as well as the front reading lights. Elyse later took to calling these “the pants”, due to their shape’s vaguely resembling a pair of pants.
Grocery stop in Manassas on December 1, 2013, on the way home from my parents’ house after celebrating Thanksgiving. The back is filled with laundry, groceries, and various other odds and ends.
On December 9, 2013, the Soul was wearing a coat of ice following some sleet. Five or so minutes later, we were once again ready to go.
The Soul, parked in front of my doctor’s office on Arcola Avenue in Wheaton on December 11.
Another selfie, on December 19. I promise that I’m not wearing lipstick, but rather, my lips are quite chapped.
On January 8, 2014, I got my other Kia hoodie. This is a white one, with “Hamstar” on the back. I’ve never worn it out of the house, but my friend Melissa has.
On January 13, 2014, my brother-in-law Chris, my sister, and my mother pose for a photo in front of the Soul outside Staunton Mall.
Parked inside my parents’ garage on January 14. This is the only time that I ever parked her in my parents’ garage. I brought her inside so that I could clean the inside of the windshield with good lighting.
January 15, all packed up and ready to return home.
Getting a drink at the Sheetz in Mt. Jackson on the way home.
After getting home from Stuarts Draft, the car was gross. We had a lot of winter weather, and that left a nice layer of grime on the Soul. A trip to the car wash was just what she needed after that, to look all shiny and new again.
On January 21, we had yet another snowstorm. It didn’t drop a whole lot of snow, but was enough to cover the car (always right after you get it washed!). The first cleanup wasn’t bad by any means, as I was clear following a quick brushing.
On February 12, the biggest snowfall of the year began, which ended up dropping around a foot of snow. I couldn’t get a spot next to my building before the storm, so I parked across the lot. After the snow ended, I went to work digging myself out.
And then after digging out of the space that I got snowed into, I found another space that was already cleared in front of my building.
Waiting for me at the Naval Academy stadium in Annapolis after the polar bear plunge at Sandy Point State Park on March 8, 2014.
As of April 1, 2014, we had done 25,291 miles together.
On April 6, while trying out a friend’s camera to see what I thought of it, I got this photo of the steering wheel.
Visiting Jim Coleman Kia in Silver Spring for routine maintenance on April 8, parked next to a bunch of second-generation Souls.
April 9, 2014, I parked at the Little Seneca Lake boat launch in Boyds to get some photos of the lake.
I don’t remember what I did to cause this, but on May 8, 2014, I had certainly slimed my tires.
Nose to nose with another Soul at the Sheetz in Leesburg on May 23.
Transporting fire alarms to Ellicott City in the back of the Soul on May 26, for my second time meeting up with Elyse.
June 5: cruise control. While the Soul’s control layout reminded me mostly of that of my old Toyota Previa, the cruise control’s being wheel-mounted was one of the few similarities to the Sable.
On June 6, I left on a trip to Stuarts Draft. I had some unusual cargo on this trip, as I brought my sister’s old bicycle back to Stuarts Draft. At this point, I had acquired my own bicycle, and so this one was no longer needed.
Parked at the Sheetz in Haymarket on June 8, after a very challenging drive through torrential rains on I-66.
A fully loaded trunk from the trip to Stuarts Draft.
I got this keychain through the Kia Key program on June 13. It went on my spare key, replacing the dealership keychain that I got with the car.
A somewhat low and distant shot in the Glenmont parking garage on June 16.
On June 22, while on a trip that took me to Westminster and Baltimore, my driver’s side window jumped its track when I closed the door. That led to the window’s not being able to close entirely. I just tolerated the open window issue while I was still out, and then when I got home, I put a bag over the window to keep any moisure and animals out until I could take it to a dealership the next day. As it turned out, this was covered under warranty, so this repair didn’t cost me a thing.
