Planespotting at BWI
On December 31, 2019, Elyse and I made a trip out to Glen Burnie, Maryland, to the Thomas A. Dixon, Jr. Aircraft Observation Area, located just south of Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). The facility is a park designed to provide planespotters a place to watch aircraft, along with walking/biking trails and a playground for the kids. There, we spent about three hours watching 44 planes land. As BWI is a focus city for Southwest Airlines, 30 of the planes that we saw were for Southwest Airlines, which operates Boeing 737 jets exclusively. Along with Southwest, we also saw planes for American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and freight carrier ABX Air.
