“And now we pass through the gates…”

Gates along the Canal Walk in Richmond, Virginia.Yes, we’ve passed through the gates of summer session, as I once again get a vacation from Harrisonburg. I’m not through college yet (one more semester), but nonetheless I do get a vacation from Harrisonburg for six weeks. I don’t have to deal with finding a space in far-flung student parking lots, I don’t have to walk all over creation to get around a construction site that’s right where I need to go, and I don’t have to deal with the crowds associated with freshman orientation (and trust me – it’s a lot of people), plus I don’t have to deal with the traffic of Harrisonburg. However, while I do get a vacation from Harrisonburg and the JMU campus, I don’t get a vacation from JMU, so to speak. As of this week, I start an internship with the Central Shenandoah Valley Office on Youth, which not only will provide great work experience, but also counts for course credit for Public Administration, as an internship is part of the requirements. It’s going to be so interesting, though, working with a new group of people, doing real-world tasks, and also getting a little change of scenery. It’s going to be so nice… wish me luck!
