“Valet parking?”

Parking garageWith the copious amounts of rain that we’ve had in Harrisonburg lately, the thought has crossed my mind in regards to ways to keep people a little drier on the way from the car to the classroom. The first thing I thought of was nipping it at the source. Closer parking lots. However, I like the idea of having some wide open grass areas on campus, and wouldn’t appreciate having them paved. Back to the drawing board. Valet parking! Now that’s an idea! I can see it now, too. JMU students go to designated locations near buildings, pay an attendant, pass over their keys, and the attendant goes and puts their car somewhere. The student remains dry at the building, while the valet person parks the car for them. Interesting idea, I think. Would definitely improve the image of the Parking Services office, who has received the derogatory nickname “Parking Nazis” because of the many parking tickets issued. Instead of earning money through tickets, instead they could earn money on the front end. Hmmm… And I think that JMU students would pay for it, too. Quite a number of JMU students make some darn strange purchases as it is, and so valet parking wouldn’t be all too bad. Plus, with one of the major complaints on campus being about parking, I can see enough people paying out the nose to have their car parked for them to make it profitable. Would I pay? Eh… not with my current spending patterns, which my mother has described with a word starting with “c” and ending in “heap”. You guessed it – cheap. But others I could honestly see paying for this. An interesting thought, indeed…
